The 57th Grammy Awards took place Sunday night (Feb. 8), and the winners of most of the rock categories were announced during a pre-ceremony that took place before the prime-time telecast.

In a surprise, comedy duo Tenacious D won the Best Metal Performance honor over actual metal bands like Slipknot, Motorhead, Mastodon and Anthrax.

In the only rock category televised during the primetime ceremony, Beck took home the award for Best Rock Album for the disc 'Morning Phase.' Beck later won the biggest honor of the night -- Album of the Year -- for the same disc.

Earlier in the evening, Jack White won Best Rock Performance for 'Lazarreto,' while Paramore earned Best Rock Song honors for 'Ain't It Fun.' Meanwhile, Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament and others won the award for Best Recording Package for 'Lightning Bolt.' See the full list of rock winners below.

AC/DC opened up the ceremony with a two-song performance of 'Rock or Bust' and 'Highway to Hell,' while Dave Grohl appeared onstage to pay tribute to 'The Late Show With David Letterman' and to introduce Beck's performance with Coldplay singer Chris Martin,
