You Can See ‘Sing’ for Free on Thanksgiving Weekend, Courtesy of AMC Theatres
Here’s the thing: After this election, many of you will undoubtedly endure awkward and possibly contentious Thanksgiving dinners with your families. And after that, some of you will get up before the sun rises the next day to participate (either willingly or as the reluctant hostage of a loved one) in the harrowing tradition known as Black Friday. By Saturday, you will find yourself in dire need of a reminder that there is still joy in this world. Lucky for you, AMC Theatres and Universal have your back with free screenings of Sing.
‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ IMAX Featurette Shows Off Some Bonkers Footage
When you think Transformers, your mind probably doesn’t immediately go to places like medieval times (the era, not the restaurant) or Stonehenge, but that’s definitely where Michael Bay is taking us for The Last Knight. While we wait for the first official trailer to drop later this week, Paramount has released a new IMAX featurette that reveals a little bit of footage from the upcoming sequel — and it is bananas.
Marvel and Fox Traded Characters for ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’
While Marvel and Sony are now playing in the same superhero sandbox, Marvel and Fox’s relationship remains a little less…cooperative. But there may be hope yet for an eventual collaboration of some kind, as the writers behind Deadpool have revealed that the two studios worked together to swap characters for their respective cinematic universes. You shouldn’t get your hopes up for the X-Men to appear in an Avengers film anytime soon, but it’s definitely optimistic news for Marvel fans.
Stick Around For These ‘The Blair Witch Project’ Facts
Released in 1999, The Blair Witch Project quickly became one of the most profitable independent films of all time. It wasn’t technically the first found footage horror film, but it’s still the most famous of the bunch. Everyone knows the Blair Witch name (and the names Heather, Josh and Mike), but did you know that directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick’s wildly successful horror flick didn’t even have a script? That’s just one of the facts featured in the last episode of You Think You Know Movies!
Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ Could Be His Longest Film to Date
Paramount has yet to confirm a release date for Martin Scorsese’s new film, Silence, which may or may not hit theaters during awards season. The iconic director’s latest is a period drama based on the Shūsaku Endō novel of the same name, and stars Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver — and although we’ve seen a few stills from the film, the studio has yet to release an official trailer, making Silence and its potential late-2016 arrival all the more intriguing. Adding to that curiosity is a new report suggesting that the forthcoming drama may be Scorsese’s longest film to date.
New HBO NOW Releases: September 2016
Vice Principals Season 1 may be ending next month, but HBO NOW’s September slate also includes the series premiere of the network’s latest comedy offering, High Maintenance. For those interested in catching up with (or revisiting) newer films, HBO’s big September movie additions include The Revenant and Steve Jobs.
‘Birth of a Nation’ Still Scheduled For October Release Despite Controversy
Fox Searchlight’s awards season plans for The Birth of a Nation have grown increasingly complicated in recent weeks, as reports surfaced revealing that the director and star of the historical drama has a troubled history of his own. Although details of Nate Parker’s alleged involvement and subsequent acquittal in a 1999 sexual assault was available to the public (it’s on his Wikipedia page) before the studio acquired the rights to distribute the Sundance hit, it was only recently that the case became a point of controversy. Despite all of this, according to Fox Searchlight, their plans to release the film in October have not changed.
Lady Gaga Officially Confirmed For Bradley Cooper’s ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake
It’s official. Lady Gaga will have a bad romance with Bradley Cooper in the long-developing remake of A Star Is Born, which also marks the directorial debut of Cooper. It was first reported back in June that the actor was looking to cast the pop star and burgeoning actress in the film, which has now been given a formal green light from Warner Bros...
Watch an ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Stuntman Take a 125-Foot ‘Leap of Faith’
In an interview not long ago, Michael Fassbender promised that the Assassin’s Creed movie would feature some practical stunts, which seemed a bit hard to believe given the increasingly CGI-driven nature of film — not to mention how crazy dangerous it would be to pull off some of the physical tricks depicted in the video game series. But it looks like director Justin Kurzel is delivering on that promise, as evidenced by this awesome behind-the-scenes video, in which a stuntman takes a 125-foot “leap of faith.” 125 feet. That’s beyond impressive.
Ben Whishaw in Talks to Join Emily Blunt in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’
In what is shaping up to be the most pleasant of Disney’s new live-action offerings, the consistently pleasant Ben Whishaw is in talks to join the similarly quite pleasing Emily Blunt and the equally personable Lin-Manuel Miranda in the indubitably enjoyable Mary Poppins sequel. It may be fairly unsurprising news, but that doesn’t make it any less wonderful.
‘Fantastic Beasts’ Reveals Some of the Beasts You’ll Find in the ‘Harry Potter’ Spinoff
It’s right there in the film’s title, but we haven’t seen too many of the fantastic beasts that Newt Scamander will have to find (or recover) in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Thanks to Warner Bros., you can check out a handful of the creatures that will appear in the upcoming film, which takes us back to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world for an all-new magical adventure.
‘Justice League’ Star Henry Cavill Teases Black Superman Costume in New Photo
Look, in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Goodyear tire! No, it’s the new Superman costume from Justice League. Seemingly confirming rumors that the Man of Steel will be wearing a black suit in Zack Snyder’s next superhero epic, Henry Cavill shared a new close-up shot of the Superman costume from the set of the upcoming film — and although you can’t see the entire thing, it is most certainly black.
