When a director inherits a franchise from another more seasoned, more beloved filmmaker, there’s bound to be some anxiety about whether or not their predecessor will like the finished project. Did I get it right? they ask themselves. Did I do their legacy justice? Gareth Edwards, still pretty new to the blockbuster scene after taking the reins of 2014’s franchise starter/reviver Godzilla, has some galaxy-sized shoes to fill as the director of the upcoming Star Wars anthology film Rogue One. But he doesn’t have to worry too much anymore, because George Lucas has seen the movie, and given it his hearty blessing.
One of the reasons we’re so excited for Rogue One is because it’ll introduce us to so much more of the Star Wars galaxy than we’ve seen before. The Force Awakens did this too, but there’s something different about Rogue One. It’s a part of the story we’ve all heard before, but it’ll show us loads of new worlds and characters that we’ve never met.
When you’re alone on a giant spaceship sailing through the outer limits, how do you pass the time? Is it by swimming in the ship’s luxurious pool, only to have the power go out and the gravity turn off and get caught in a weightless maelstrom while you drown, stuck in a giant water balloon bubble with no one to call for help? On ...
In brightest day, in blackest night, no movie rumor shall escape our sight. Next year’s Justice League has been sans Green Lantern so far, with no news for sure that the intergalactic crimefighter will appear in the movie, despite the fact that he’s historically been a hugely important member of the group. Today, it’s now rumored that the Green Lantern Corps will appear in the movie, but it might not be our familiar human member of the force.
Star Wars Episode VIII, much like The Force Awakens, has been shrouded in the utmost secrecy throughout its production so far. We’ve had some teeny glimpses behind the scenes and rumors have fluttered around, but so far we don’t know a whole lot about the film in terms of plot. Earlier this year, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran joined the cast in unspecified roles, and the studio has kept quiet about that so far. Now, a new rumor might give us some answers to one very important question: who, exactly, is Benicio del Toro playing? Be wary of SPOILERS for Episode VIII in the following paragraphs.
While filming on Spider-Man: Homecoming has wrapped, not a whole lot is known about the characters or storyline. Some casting news has come out recently, like Michael Keaton playing Vulture, but so far most of the details about the plot are being kept under wraps. Fans are interested to see which familiar characters form the comics will be making an appearance in the movie, and today we got some more confirmation that one of these is going to be Peter Parker’s bestie Ned Leeds.
ILMxLAB, an offshoot of Lucasfilm, has been quietly experimenting with new ways of storytelling for the virtual reality age recently, from an augmented reality video featuring C-3PO and R2-D2 to plans for a Darth Vader-centric VR story. Now, ahead of Rogue One’s premiere, the company has partnered with Verizon to unveil a new “360 experience” entitled Rogue One: Recon. When the news that Disney was making a live-action Beauty and the Beast movie dropped, we all wondered one thing: how close was this version sticking to the original? Would the costumes look the same? Would the inanimate object characters be changed at all? Would there still be songs? From what we’ve seen, it looks like everything in this version, will look the same, just more realistic. Emma Watson’s Belle still has her blue-and-white outfit, the Beast looks similar, if not a little more uncanny-valley, and Lumiere and Cogsworth look more or less like themselves, just with a few tweaks.
Remember way back when people criticized Daniel Craig’s casting as James Bond, with some even saying he was too blond for the role? Well, the times have changed, and with Sony searching for new some new blood to eventually fill 007’s shoes, it looks like they’re willing to pay Craig the big bucks to stick around for a few more installments.
It’s back to the woods we go in the newest trailer for ‘Blair Witch,’ the surprise sequel to The Blair Witch Project that had one of the coolest reveals in recent memory. Marketed as simply ‘The Woods,’ the film had an early screening at San Diego Comic Con, at which the real title and connection to the original film was announced. When the audience exited the theater after it was over, they saw that during the screening the big poster advertising ‘The Woods’ had been swapped for a ‘Blair Witch’ poster.
