English musician Billy Bragg has taken issue with pop songstress Taylor Swift’s supposed stance against Spotify, while allowing her catalog to appear on Google’s new YouTube music-streaming service, Music Key.

In a lengthy Facebook post earlier today (Nov. 18), Bragg pointed out that Swift recently told Yahoo that she doesn’t “agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free” -- thus prompting her to remove her entire catalog from Spotify.

Bragg notes the inconsistencies in the singer-songwriter’s statement now that her catalog is available on Music Key.

“These worthy sentiments have been somewhat undermined by Swift making her new album and back catalogue available on Google’s new Music Key streaming service … which also offers listeners free service alongside a premium subscription tier,” he wrote.

Bragg implored Swift to be honest about the business maneuver.

“But she should just be honest with her fans and say, ‘Sorry, but Sergey Brin gave me a huge amount of money to be the headline name on the marquee for the launch of YouTube Music Key, and so I’ve sold my soul to Google,” he wrote. “If Ms. Swift was truly concerned about perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free, she should be removing her material from YouTube, not cosying [sic] up to it.”

However, a representative for Swift denied any affiliation between the singer and Music Key in a new statement, writing, “Taylor Swift has absolutely no discussion or agreement of any kind with Google’s new music streaming service.”
