Third Man Records entrepreneur Jack White has been known to be quite the collector, most recently snagging a rare Captain Beefheart 7" vinyl disc. Now, the iconic rocker has gone above and beyond almost anything in his collection by purchasing Elvis Presley's first-ever recording for a whopping $300,000.

The acetate of the July 18, 1953 track was auctioned back in January, and the buyer remained anonymous ... until now. White not only purchased the recording -- which is of Presley's "My Happiness" and "That’s When Your Heartaches Begin" -- but will reissue the tracks on vinyl for Record Store Day on April 18. You can listen to the recordings, which Presley was rumored to have only paid $4 for at Sun Studio, below.

Billboard editor Joe Levy unmasked the anonymous buyer during a recent interview with White. After receiving the 7" (delivered by Levy), White cheerfully announced to his label, “This is the first recording ever made by Elvis Presley. On Record Store Day, Third Man Records will issue this on vinyl.” Levy writes about the encounter in the magazine's latest issue.
