Jimmy Kimmel Formally Apologizes for Suggesting Babies Shouldn’t Arbitrarily Die

Listen up, fam: Jimmy Kimmel is real sorry about suggesting on an episode of Live! last week that babies shouldn’t be implicitly sentenced to death if their parents don’t carry top-tier health insurance. He promises he’ll never, ever do it again.

On last night’s (May 8) episode, Kimmel, who’d previously shared a heartbreaking story of watching his son struggle with heart issues immediately after his birth, incredulously explained that his story somehow drew critics. In the aftermath of his teary plea for healthcare reform, The Washington Times went as far as to call him an “elitist creep.” But he’s learned his lesson, guys!!!

“I would like to apologize for saying that children in America should have health care. It was insensitive, it was offensive, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me,” he began, before ditching his sarcastic tone for a more pointed one.

“There are some very sick and sad people out there,” he said.

On a different note, he thanked fans and viewers for the outpouring of support.

“There was so much kindness, so much compassion, it was hard to process,” he said, before saying he planned to send a personal card to everyone who donated in the wake of his message.

Kimmel also provided a specific update on his son’s progress.

“I want to tell you because so many people have asked, our son Billy is doing very well,” Kimmel said. “He’s eating, He is getting bigger. He’s sleeping well. He can read now, which they say is unusual.”
