Local Food Staples In Amarillo Texas – Our Top 6
Amarillo is home to some really interesting and amazing places, and some of the best food in the country. Some of our restaurants are actually World Famous! When thinking about places to eat and some of the dishes they serve that make my mouth water, I think of a very short list of places. This is my list of Amarillo's best little food staples.
Man VS. Food was the first (that I have seen) to showcase the little burger dive on Grand Street in Amarillo. If you have ever eaten there, I know you have seen the 'Burger From Hell' on the menu. While you're there you definitely need to try an order of their green chili cheese fries. They are served on a pizza pan covered in cheese and green chilies.
WTAMU football players walked in and gave it their all and didn't even get half way through. There is also a picture of a small little lady who completely demolished the entire meal. And, that is one of the Kickers. You don't just have to eat the steak. The entire meal consists of: Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato, Salad, with Roll, Butter, and of course the 72 oz. Steak So if you are taking a run at this, GOOD LUCK!
575 Pizzeria is a restaurant that specializes in fresh homemade 'pies', and they are by far the best pizza I have ever eaten. This is the 'Bently' pizza which has canadian bacon, green peppers, red onions and black pepper. Personally, my favorite pizza from there is the 'Omni' which has: Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and black olives. Not only do they have amazing pizza, but the place has a great atmosphere and feel to it. Whether you are calling in or going out to eat, 575 Pizzeria has some great food.
Green Chili Willy's might be a little bit out of the way, but it is well worth the drive. The first time I ate there, I ordered the RibEye Sandwich which is and actual thin sliced ribeye steak with cheese and served on a toasted hoagie. Unbelievable. Now the chicken fried steak there is another story. It is served three different ways, Texas Traditional, Green Chili Willy's and Jalapeno Jack. If you want to have one of the best Chicken Fried Steaks in the country, next time you are in the Texas Panhandle, make it a point to stop off at Green Chili Willy's.
This restaurant has been around since I was a little kid. I remember my dad taking all us boys in there and trying to keep all of us inline. One of those places that made a memory in my family. Great home cookin' and a nice little country atmosphere. I remember that I always loved the chicken sandwich served with 'Wets' (French Fries Smothered In Gravy). Now if that doesn't sound nutritious, I don't know what does! The one thing that I liked more than anything there were the Fresh Cinnamon rolls they would bring out to the table while you are waiting for your order. If you have ever been there, I'm sure that is one of your favorite things about the restaurant.
