Trivium’s Matt Heafy Performs Powerful Cover of Radiohead’s ‘Exit Music (For a Film)’

Trivium and Radiohead, musically, are far apart as we all know, but that doesn’t mean you have to pick a side! Here, Matt Heafy pours on the sorrow with his solo acoustic rendition of Radiohead’s OK Computer cut “Exit Music (For a Film).”

Choosing to set the tone with a fitting black and white video, Heafy strums away on the acoustic guitar, which is strapped with a capo on the third fret. The lonely gaze in his eyes only adds to the atmosphere as he initially showcases the deeper side of his voice. As the song plods on, the intensity increases, which finds Heafy reaching a soaring vocal altitude, invoking a cinematic feeling all while utilizing only the acoustic guitar.

Over the years, Trivium have incorporated more clean singing into their music, entirely foregoing the harsh growls and shrieks entirely on the band’s latest release, Silence in the Snow. This Radiohead cover allows fans to fully appreciate the singer’s voice in this stripped down setting.

When Heafy guested on the Loudwire Podcast (heard below), he spoke about blowing his voice out at the Rock on the Range festival in 2014 and enlisting the same singing coach as M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. Now armed with proper technique, it’s no wonder the Trivium frontman is dishing out covers like this.
