As part of a documentary, Smashing Pumpkins is filming their journey across Route 66.

The rock band decided to turn a cross-country road trip into a movie earlier this year. They set out on old Route 66, which starts in Chicago, Illinois, and ends in Los Angeles, California.

Route 66 was one of the first highways in America. It was built in the 1920's to accommodate the traffic flowing west during the Depression and Dust Bowl. Route 66 lasted 60 years before being removed from the official list of U.S. highways in the 80's. Now, I-40 crosses over some of the original Route 66.

Smashing Pumpkins has been updating their Facebook to show the different spots they've seen on the trip. Although they did not post any photos of Amarillo, they spoke highly of their experience here in a video.

As of last night, the band had made it to Sun Valley, Arizona. They should be able to finish their trip in the next few days.

Thanks for stopping in and enjoying our city!
